While the popular series isn't ending anytime soon, Hargitay has pondered the perfect conclusion to Captain Olivia Benson's journey after playing the role for over two decades.
At the premiere event for Season 24, Hargitay shared her vision with E! News, surprising fans with the idea of Benson retiring from the force.
In contemplating Benson's happy ending, Hargitay expressed her hope for the character to find a sense of fulfillment in her service and to embrace a time of rest and the best that life has to offer. Having experienced the darkest side of humanity in her work, Benson deserves a chance to enjoy life's brighter moments.
Considering the difficult cases Benson faces daily, it's understandable that she would yearn to trade her badge for a new chapter.
Fortunately, Hargitay didn't leave fans hanging and provided additional details about the "best that life has to offer" for Benson. She envisioned Benson sharing her life with someone and fully immersing herself in the joys of motherhood.
When asked about this special someone, Hargitay playfully responded, "I don't know. Let's see what pops up!"
Many followers of the show have long hoped for a romantic connection between Benson and her former partner, Detective Elliot Stabler. Throughout Season 23, tantalizing hints have been dropped, igniting anticipation for a potential reunion.
