The conclusion of “House of the Dragon” Season 2 offered a fleeting glance at Prince Daeron Targaryen, and viewers can anticipate a more substantial appearance of this hitherto unseen third brother in the “Game of Thrones” offshoot when it resumes.
The closing scene of the eighth episode of Season 2 provided a quick, almost missable view of Daeron’s blue dragon, Tessarion, and series showrunner Ryan Condal affirmed in a Monday press briefing that Daeron will make his formal introduction in Season 3, which is scheduled to start production in early 2025.
For those needing a reminder about Daeron, he is the fourth offspring and third son of Alicent (portrayed by Olivia Cooke) and Viserys (played by Paddy Considine), though he has not yet appeared on screen in “House of the Dragon.” His presence was confirmed during Season 2, when Otto (Rhys Ifans) discussed a trip to Oldtown, indicating that Daeron resided there. In the same season, Gwayne Hightower characterized Daeron as a “stalwart” individual who is “witty,” “compassionate,” and equally proficient with the lute as he is with the sword, adding that he is likely the object of affection for many young women.
Audiences of the HBO series are also looking forward to encountering a different Daeron Targaryen in the impending spin-off “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” portrayed by Henry Ashton, though this Daeron belongs to a later generation than his upcoming appearance in "House of the Dragon.
